Your values shape your beliefs, your beliefs shape your behaviours and your behaviours shape your reality.
Yesterday marked the celebration of World Values Day and central to this year’s theme is wellbeing. Living our lives following our values is empowering. Our values represent who we are; they inspire and motivate us to do everything – right and wrong. It’s our values that define and shape us, and the world we live in.
When our values align with what we do - at work, at home, on the football pitch, in school - everyone benefits. Being true to our values – demonstrating them through our actions, can be daunting, yet it’s imperative to stand up for what we believe. When we don’t – whether that is through fear of reprisal, intimidation and bullying, exclusion, or a lack of tolerance, things don’t go so well.
Our values are at the heart of everything we do
At BPDTS, we recognise how vital organisational culture is to the success of our company, our customer and our people. We involve all our colleagues in the process to shape our culture, with a focus on critical themes, including customer value, leadership, community, organisational identity, development, and career progression. Everything we do underpins our POISE values – Pride, Opportunity, Inclusivity, Simplicity, and Expertise.
Celebrating success together
BPDTS believes in celebrating successes together, and recognising and rewarding employees for their creativity and commitment to excellence. Harnessing the full potential of people and technology, we design and iterate digital services in collaboration with DWP Digital. Embracing the agile values of focus, courage, openness, commitment, and respect, we’re creating a culture driven by capability and efficiency to reduce complexity and bureaucracy continuously. Working together at BPDTS, united in what we’re trying to achieve, we support one another to deliver our goals, realise our ambitions, and make our organisation a great place to work.
Recognising every employee’s unique value
Everyone wants to work in an environment where they feel safe to experiment and learn. At BPDTS, we actively encourage our employees to be themselves, be bold in their decisions, and feel comfortable being who they are. At BPDTS, we provide a fertile ground for imagination and learning, encourage tolerance and respect - it’s part of our DNA. It’s what drives our executive team, managers, and staff, giving them a sense of pride about what they achieve every day.
Opportunity to grow and room to run
An organisation is only as good as its people. And, great teams don’t just happen by accident. BPDTS successfully delivers excellent services to its client, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), because we’re committed to investing time and resources in developing our people. To keep pace with the changes in digital technology and to continuously improve the ability of our professionals, we offer a broad range of learning and development opportunities. For example, BPDTS is a strong advocate of mentoring in the workplace.
Mentoring is a partnership designed to enable people to build skills and develop their careers. The mutually beneficial mentoring relationship between two professionals with different levels of experience is rewarding for everyone. The supportive partnership improves skills and performance for both the mentor and the mentee, enabling each person to fulfil their potential as individual contributors, team players, and aspirational leaders.
We all know having a good manager can make or break a job. A great manager is vital to our success and satisfaction at work. Managers who provide support, give us room to run, and encourage us to stretch out of our comfort zones are magic. Productivity and performance soar through the roof if people have an opportunity to reach their full potential. When an employee’s values, unique skills, and talents are recognised and rewarded, everyone wins.
Thriving and adapting to change
We want to continue to thrive and adapt to change over the coming years and ensure we have highly-motivated colleagues as well as attracting the best people to join us in the future. As an organisation with a distinctive culture and feel – we're harnessing being part of the public service with the flexibility and opportunities we have as a new and growing company.
